How to pray this chaplet
On the Crucifix
Sign yourself with the sign of the cross. And pray the Apostles Creed
On each of the large meditation beads:
The First Meditation
"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
(Luke 23:34)
O Jesus, who hung in agony upon the Cross out of love for me, and by your pains paid for my sins, you
who spoke of pardon for your persecutors, obtain pardon for all those who are now facing death, and
have pity on me when I am facing mine. By the merits of your precious blood shed for our salvation,
grant us continual sorrow for our sins so that we may share eternal life with you.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Second Meditation
"Amen I say to you, this day you shall be with me in paradise."
(Luke 23:43)
My Jesus, who in agony on the Cross, did readily respond to the faith of the good thief who
acknowledged you as the Son of God, you who assured him of a place in heaven, pity all of those who
are facing death and pity me when I am facing mine. By the merit of your precious blood, shed for us,
wake up in our souls a firm and steadfast faith. Protect us from the temptations of Satan so that we
may obtain the prize of holy paradise with you forever.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Third Meditation
"Woman, behold your Son . . . Behold your mother."
(John 19:26-27)
Oh Jesus, who out of love for me hung in agony on the Cross and who left your own most holy Mother as
a sign of your love so that through her intercession we might seek your assistance, have pity on us.
Have pity on all the faithful who are facing death and have pity on me when I also shall face mine. By
the sorrows of your dear Mother, nurture in our hearts a hope that, through the merits of your
precious blood, we may escape the sentence of eternal death in hell.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Fourth Meditation
"My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?."
(Matt. 27:46)
O Jesus, out of love for me you hung in agony upon the Cross. While bodily suffering and indignities
were heaped upon you, the most desperate desolation of spirit was being forsaken by your eternal
Father. Have pity on all the faithful who are facing death, and pity me when I too shall be facing
mine. By the merits of your precious blood, may we patiently suffer our last agony, and may we join
our pains with yours so that we may be made partakers of your glory in paradise.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Fifth Meditation
"I thirst."
(John 19:28)
O Jesus, in agony you hung upon the Cross for me. You suffered unquenchable physical thirst and an
insatiable tolerance for insults and suffering. Yet the more you suffered so that all people might be
saved, the more you demonstrated the enormous love you had in your heart. Pity all the faithful who
are now facing death, and pity me when I also shall be facing mine. By the merits of your precious
blood, fire in our hearts such a great love that we will be made one with you for all eternity.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Sixth Meditation
"It is finished"
(John 19:30)
O Jesus, you hung in agony on the Cross for love of me. From this tree you announced the truth of my
redemption, a redemption which made us children of God and heirs of heaven. Pity all the faithful who
are now facing death; pity me when I also shall be facing mine. By the merits of your precious blood,
detach us from the pleasures of the world and grant us the grace to offer you the sacrifice of our
life in reparation of our sins.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Seventh Meditation
"Father, into your hands I commend my spirit."
(Luke 23:46)
O Jesus, you hung in agony on the Cross for love of me. You accomplished my salvation through your
full acceptance of the will of your eternal Father. You commended your spirit into his hands, bowed
your head and died. Have pity on all the faithful who are now facing death, and pity me when I too
shall be facing mine. By the merits of your precious blood, give us our last breath a complete
conformity to your divine will. Make us ready to live or die as it pleases you. Let us desire nothing
more than to accomplish whatever you have willed for us.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.

The choice of these beads was inspired by the film, The Passion of the Christ, and
call to mind the scourging Christ endured for our salvation at the hands of Roman soldiers.
The meditation beads are 15mm pressed glass, with a metallic aurora finish reminiscent of armor.
The small beads are 8mm vintage pressed glass, swirling with shades of blood red. The 2"
sterling crucifix is exquisitely detailed, with the image of Veronica's veil and instruments of
crucifixion.

How to pray this chaplet (another method)
On the Crucifix
Sign yourself with the sign of the cross. And pray the Apostles Creed
On each of the large meditation beads:
The First Meditation
"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
(Luke 23:34)
These words of yours, O Lord, are a two edged sword; they cut both ways. They console me because I
know myself as being as guilty as those who nailed you to the cross. Speak these words of forgiveness
over me as well. But, at the same time though, these words fill me with dread. I understand that in
your example I must pardon those persons who have harmed me - toward whom I nurse a powerful grudge.
The imitation of Christ, to which I am pledged, is excruciatingly hard. I count on the strength of
your example to serve me, and to be able to say and mean those words, Father forgive them.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Second Meditation
"Amen I say to you, this day you shall be with me in paradise."
(Luke 23:43)
All I can think of in reading your words, O Lord, is the magnanimous return the good thief receives
for his gentle kindness to you. He has spoken the only gracious words to reach your ears on that
fateful day when he said that you weren't deserving of this punishment for you had done no evil.
But what a massive reward he receives for those few words: heaven in return for a simple act of
kindness. I hope that all the words I speak during prayer will bring down a similar avalanche of
divine mercy onto me.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Third Meditation
"Woman, behold your Son . . . Behold your mother."
(John 19:26-27)
These desperate sounding words first appear to be a guarantee for the well-being of your mother.
It is not; rather it is a gift - the gift of Mary as mother; to care for me, to guide me, to love me
and to intercede to you for me. You give me a rare gift indeed, a presence in my life, to make
my heart gentle and my world beautiful. There are no limits to your generosity - giving me your
mother.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Fourth Meditation
"My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?."
(Matt. 27:46)
These words are not words of despair, but words of trust taken from the opening of Psalm 22. Our
ancestors trusted in the Father and He delivered them. To Him they cried out and were saved.
In your darkest hour you placed your trust in the Father and by doing so, you show me to place my
trust in You.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Fifth Meditation
"I thirst."
(John 19:28)
It is an irony that you who quench the thirst in people searching for truth and divine wisdom should
in your darkest hour experience thirst. Considering your loss of blood from the scourging, and
the noon day sun as you made your way up to Calvary, your thirst must have been monstrous; but, you
endured patiently and lovingly for me.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Sixth Meditation
"It is finished"
(John 19:30)
At first, these words could seem to be desperate, sad and empty of hope. On second look, they appear
to be those of encouragement. It is finished, that is to say, that you have reached you goal,
your task is completed. There is a sense of fulfillment and even triumph in what you say. Your
task in bringing the good word was completed as was the task of dying for our sins. I hope that
in my time, I will be able to say in full honesty... It is finished - my task, complete.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.
The Seventh Meditation
"Father, into your hands I commend my spirit."
(Luke 23:46) In these words you give me the formula for achieving peace and strength. You died
commending your spirit to the Father. What would make more sense than at any critical moment than to
put myself in God's hands? Just as Thomas died commending his spirit to you, I will place my
life securely in your hands for safekeeping.
Next 3 beads: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be to the Father.

Las Siete Últimas Palabras de Cristo en la Cruz
|
PRIMERA PALABRA
Padre, perdónalos,
porque no saben
lo que hacen
(Lc. 23,34)
|
Tres Gloria.
Tened piedad de nosotros, Señor, tened piedad de nosotros.
Dios mío, creo en Vos, espero en Vos os amo y me arrepiento
de haberos ofendido con mis pecados.
|
|
|
|
TERCERA PALABRA
Mujer, he ahí a
tu hijo;
hijo he ahí a
tu madre
(Jn. 19, 26-27)
|
Tres Gloria.
Tened piedad de nosotros, Señor, tened piedad de nosotros.
Dios mío, creo en Vos, espero en Vos, os amo y me arrepiento
de haberos ofendido con mis pecados.
|
|
CUARTA PALABRA
¡Dios mío,
Dios mío!,
¿por qué me has
abandonado?
(Mc. 15, 34; Mt. 27, 46)
|
